Our Work
Taking Good Grief into
everyday life
Most bereaved people will never access specialist bereavement services - so support needs to reach the places where life already happens. Our 2027–2031 strategy sets out how we plan to bring grief-informed support into GP practices, sports clubs, schools and communities across Northern Ireland, beginning with the Year One pilot.
Where things stand
What exists today –
and what comes next
The foundations of our work are already in place. The four Good Grief Kits - Littles, Middles, Teens and Adults - have been developed, grounded in Continuing Bonds Theory and contemporary bereavement research. The Infinity Room at Causeway Hospital provides comfort and support to families experiencing grief, loss and heartbreak, and remains a cornerstone of our work.
In 2027, our first Partner Practice will become our first Good Grief Partner Practice - a pilot to test the kit model in primary care, gather service-user feedback, assess impact and develop a programme that can be rolled out more widely.
The rest is where we are heading. Good Grief in Sports, Good Grief Schools and our awareness, education and training work are planned for 2027–2031. Each page here describes its strand honestly - what exists now, what is being piloted, and what remains an ambition we are working to fund and build. You can read the full picture in our 2027–2031 strategy.
Four strands
Our work, strand
by strand
Each strand of our 2027–2031 strategy has its own page, with an honest account of where it stands - established, piloting, or planned.
-
Good Grief in GP Practices
GPs are often among the first professionals families meet following a bereavement. We will establish our first Good Grief Partner Practice, piloting Good Grief Kits within primary care.

Good Grief in Sports
Sport provides identity, belonging and connection. We aim to create grief-aware sporting communities, beginning with Gaels with Grief - our planned Phase One work with GAA clubs.
Explore -
Good Grief Schools
Schools are often the most significant support system for bereaved children and young people outside the family home. We plan to develop grief-informed resources for primary schools first, then secondary schools.

Awareness, Education and Training
We aim to improve public understanding of grief and bereavement - through an annual Good Grief Awareness Campaign, community workshops, and training we are developing for professionals and volunteers.
