Accessibility statement
We want everyone to be able to use this website - including people arriving at one of the hardest moments of their lives. This page explains what we have done, what we are still checking, and how to tell us if something is not working for you.
Last updated: August 2026
Noah’s Story Charity supports people who have been bereaved, and many visitors arrive at this website at a very difficult time. We want the site to work for everyone - whatever device, browser or assistive technology you use, and however you are feeling when you get here.
This statement applies to this website only. It sets out the standard we are working to, what has been done so far, what we still need to check, and how to report a problem.
The standard we are working to
We are working to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA.
Because of the nature of our work, we also try to go beyond the technical checklist: calm layouts, plain language, predictable navigation, and no pop-ups or urgency tactics. Nobody visiting this site should have to work hard to find support.
What we have done
- Clear structure. Every page uses semantic landmarks - header, navigation, main content and footer - with one clear page heading and a logical order of subheadings, so screen reader users can move around each page easily.
- Skip link. A “Skip to content” link is the first thing keyboard users reach on every page, so you can jump straight past the navigation.
- Keyboard navigation. Every menu, link and button - including the mobile menu - can be reached and used with a keyboard alone.
- Visible focus. The element that has keyboard focus is always marked with a clear outline, so you can see where you are on the page.
- Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the site’s animations and transitions are switched off.
- Colour contrast. Text and background colour pairings were chosen to meet the WCAG AA contrast requirements.
- Descriptive alt text. Photographs carry alternative text that describes what is actually in the picture.
- Responsive text. Text sizes adapt to your screen, pages reflow rather than forcing sideways scrolling, and the site works when you zoom in.
- No flashing content and no autoplay audio anywhere on the site.
What we still need to check
This is a new website and some of its content is still being finalised, so we are being honest about what has not yet been confirmed:
- A full page-by-page accessibility audit - including testing with screen readers such as VoiceOver and NVDA - has not yet been completed. We plan to carry this out once the site’s content is finalised, and we will update this statement with the results.
- Some image spaces do not have a photograph yet. They show a plain decorative motif, marked so that screen readers skip it rather than announcing a missing picture. As real photographs are added we will write descriptive alt text for each one.
- Our contact form is provided by a separate form component. We will confirm its labels, error messages and keyboard behaviour as part of the audit.
- We link to resources and websites run by other organisations. We cannot guarantee the accessibility of external content, but where we can, we will help you find an alternative.
Tell us if something is not working
If any part of this website is difficult or impossible for you to use, we would genuinely like to know. Please get in touch through our contact page and tell us:
- the page you were on;
- what you were trying to do and what went wrong; and
- the device, browser or assistive technology you were using, if you know it.
We will do our best to put the problem right, or to give you the information you were looking for in another way.
About this statement
This statement was prepared in August 2026, when the website was built. We will review it as content is finalised and after the full audit described above, and update the date shown at the top whenever it changes.
